Rottnest Island is located just 19 kms of the coast of Western Australia and features picturesque scenery, laid back atmosphere and stunning beaches. Rottnest is a popular destination for both locals and international visitors. Approximately 7,000 years ago it seperated from the main land, this isolation has allowed the unique flora and fauna to thrive on the island. In important aspect of Rottnest Island is environmental conservation. The Rottnest Island Authority has implemented such initiatives such as wind turbines, hydrocarbon sites and waste management systems to ensure future generations can enjoy the island too.

Rottnest has a signifigant cultural heritage to Western Australia. The Island was first occupied in the 17th century and was settled in 1829. Its been used for a variety of purposes since its settlement such as farm land, a prison, a boys reform school, a Govenors residence, military training and finally for recreational use. Apart from being home to the Quokka, the island is the life blood of many distinctive species. There are approximately 400 species of merine life that are unique to the island including 135 species of tropical fish. The are also 140 species of indigenous species of plant life that are on the island. The plants on the island are extremely resilient and can withstand exposure to wind, heat and high levels of salt.

Rottnest boasts 63 beaches and 20 bays. Just off shore get up close to tropical fish, colourful coral and 100 year old ship wrecks or on shore explore the historical buildings that remain on the island or catch a glimpse of the local Quokkas. Play a relaxing round of golf on Rottnest's unique course or mini golf at the Family Fun Park. You can also catch a movie at the Island Picture Hall or treat yourself to a spa treatment at the Wellness Centre.

The are so many way s to experinece Rottnest Island. The island is 11 km long, 4.5 km wide and measures 1,999 hectares and you can have the chance to see every bit, There are paved roads to ride on or designated walk tracks if you want to go off the beaten track.
